pH value

The pH value is the measure of a solution's acidity or alkalinity. A pH value of 7 corresponds to the neutral point between the two. Values below 7 indicate an acid, values greater than 7 an alkali (base). Condensation processes can lead to the creation of sulphuric acid, particularly when combusting non-low-sulphur fuel oils, which in turn reduces the pH value of the condensate to less than seven. The pH value of the condensate from condensing boilers fired on low-sulphur fuel oils is comparable with that of gas fired units.

Plate heat exchanger

A heat exchanger comprised of several stainless-steel plates. Water is directed between the closely adjoining plates and warmed. The surface structure of the plates agitates the water as it flows by, and this turbulence guarantees an even greater degree of heat transfer. The compact construction enables utilisation in the smallest of spaces (e.g. in the Weishaupt Thermo Condens Compact, WTC-K).

Pollutant

Waste gases, which pollute the environment (emissions).
