Nitrogen OxideA pollutant emission which can cause "acid rain" (emissions). The expression nitrogen oxide or oxides of nitrogen encompasses the various gaseous oxides of nitrogen. Nitrogen oxide is also abbreviated to NOX, because the different oxidisation stages of nitrogen can create various nitrogen-oxygen compounds. With modern boilers and burner systems nitrogen oxide emissions are in some instances considerably lower than the mandated limits.
